about

This piece is dedicated to an old friend from a village in Ghana called Dagbamete named Kobla Avu Adukpo. He's an Ewe master drummer who taught me much over the past 20 years or so. I love sitting with him and my other good friend Sunday Baba Nyakpo and we are always joke and smile together, and sinus music, culture and gossip.

I based this piece off a style of music called adzro/aguteni/agbosu which Avu (as he is commonly known) taught me years back. I've adapted it in various ways bu the essence is still there.

The end of the track features a field recordings of some folks who I've known for almost as many years, recorded in the village of Dzogadze. They are playing the same music from which this tune is inspired.

Kobla, by the way, is the day name for a male born on Tuesday in several West African cultures. (I am Kodzo, Monday-born).
